Painter, sculptor, photographer, illustrator, designer – artist
Though I am a self-taught artist, I still very much consider myself to be a student of the arts. When I’m not creating art, I’m generally researching new ideas, practicing new mediums, learning from my peers, or studying the works of the great Masters of the past.
When I was younger I favored realism and I spent hours creating works of art that were as realistic and true to form as possible. Though this was a terrific way to hone my skills as an artist, my work during this period felt empty and void of passion and purpose. I felt as if I was copying the world rather than contributing to it. Craving something more, I found myself progressing artistically by regressing to a looser more expressive and more satisfying style of art. Rather than painting a scene, I paint the mood of the scene. Rather than painting a face, I paint the emotion in the face. Rather than painting what I see, I paint what I feel. I paint thoughts, feelings, dreams, struggles, joys, ideas… I paint emotion and purpose—wonder and passion. The more you look at my art, the more you’ll see, and the more you let yourself feel, the more you’ll feel. |
