Yadkin Artists Residing Downtown

A working artist colony

Yard - new

YARD is the third leg of a "cultural triangle" created by the Yadkin Cutural Arts Center and Uptown Wine & Gallery. YARD, an acronym for Yadkin Artists Residing Downtown,  provides collective yet self-defined working studio space for regional artists seeking affordable, accessible space and modest rent. The YARD studios have been fully renovated.

YARD is composed of four work bays - two double bays and two single bays. The artists delineate their own work spaces.

The two single bays measure 14' x 30'. The two double bays measure 36' x 30'. Each spacious bay contains its own entrance, washroom, utility sink, utility closet, and lighting.  The floors are concrete. The spaces are fully functional.

YARD faces the beautiful Cultural Arts Center outdoor plaza. Each of the four bays looks out through a wall of windows onto the Cultural Center fountains, performance stage and stroll way.

There are two double bay studios: Studios A&B and Studios E&F.  Studios A&B are mutli-purpose spaces used for art council functions and for classes offered by YARD artists, at the present time. Studios B and C are occupied by oil, acrylics and watercolor painters. Studio E is occupied by a mosaic artist and Studio F is transforming into an artist gift shop, opening October21, 2011.

Artist members of the Yadkin Arts Council and YARD resident artists may offer their work for sale at the new YARD Gift Shop located in Studio F as well as from their own YARD studios.

YARD artists will be fully integrated with events and workshops at the Cultural Center and will offer classes to the public.Studio tours will cross-promote cultural tourism in the Yadkin Valley region. And YARD is only a few steps away from The Third Branch Cafe.

Artists may apply for a space in the YARD either individually or as a group.
Applications and work samples will be reviewed by the Yadkin Arts Council committee. Please email or phone the Yadkin Arts Council if you are interested in YARD-space.
