Two years after the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center opened its doors the Willingham Theater would host its first performance in December of 2012. The theater seats 193 people and showcases performances in music, dance, drama and film.
This beautifully designed location is the result of six years of fundraising, planning and construction. A dedicated theater committee and acting theater manager, Ron Thompson of the North Carolina School of the Arts put together an amazing and varied first season, spring of 2013.
The season showcased a solo performance by our region’s own song stylist Cle Thompson, The Kruger Brothers, The Old-Timey Radio show musical revue, The Pluck Project of solo performance dance and a Shakespeare “light” production of Two Gentlemen of Verona, plus classic movies such as Gone With the Wind.
The Willingham Theater has a state of the art sound and light system that allows it to accommodate any performance. Its 17-foot wide movie screen can show films in Blu-Ray technology.
The theater is equipped with sound and light blocking at all entrances into the theater as well as from the stage for a complete immersed experience during performances. The theater also features a back wall with absorbent tile, sound clouds in the ceiling and side curtains along the walls to provide the best sound for any performance offered.
Behind the scenes are two fully equipped dressing rooms, prop and storage rooms and a scene shop.
The theater is available for rent by other theater companies and individuals seeking an enhanced performance experience. Please contact the arts council for a review of your theater needs.
