Kathy Pruett moved to Mount Airy, NC in 1980, shortly after earning her degree in music education from Lenoir Rhyne University. She is currently working as organist and choir director at Grace Moravian Church.
Her interest in art grew from her love of flower arranging and a desire to create a more permanent portrayal of the beauty of nature. She explored many mediums before settling on oils and pastels. Kathy has been most influenced by Kathy Reece, a friend and artist from Raleigh and by Carolyn Blaylock, an instructor and nationally recognized artist. She paints on a regular basis in a studio in downtown Winston Salem, with Amos Westmoreland, Becky Davis and Linda Battle, who provide encouragement and advice as she continues to refine her painting “voice.”
Kathy and her husband David recently purchased a cabin in the Valle Crucis community outside of Boone and enjoy spending as much time as possible in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains with their daughters, Kellner and Meg, as well as with family and friends. She enjoys painting from photographs she has taken during her travels and is expanding her repertoire of painting subjects to include landscapes from the area in and around her high country home.
