March 1 @ 7:30pm – Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Musical  (60 minute version)

Middle school, ugh. It’s the worst. But Greg is determined not to be at the bottom of the popularity chart. He’ll leave that to his weird neighbor, Fregley. Or maybe Greg’s best friend, Rowley Jefferson. But it’s not going to be Greg…no way.

Jeff Kinney’s popular character takes center stage as Greg’s cartoon diary becomes a hilarious and heartfelt musical. Will Greg’s plans to become popular lead him to sacrifice his one true friend? Can anyone avoid the dreaded Cheese Touch? Grab a hall pass and don’t be late for an adventure familiar to anyone who actually survived middle school.

This production is presented as part of our annual “Page to Stage” program in partnership with the Yadkin County School System. This program is centered on the model of taking a popular children’s book and bringing it to life on stage. The actors are cast from a pool of talent from our local high schools and middle schools. During the week prior to the public performances, the 4th and 5th grade Yadkin County students will be bussed over from all eight elementary schools to the Willingham Theater for the live stage shows. In addition to providing these performances to our schools free of charge, we will also purchase copies from the series “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” to donate to all of the classrooms who are participating, as well as to each of their school libraries. And in an effort to make these books available to more youth in our area, we are also donating a set of to the Yadkinville Public Library. The purchase of these books was made through the Winston-Salem based nonprofit bookstore, Booksmarks, in an effort to support locally.
