“ACTORS, ADVANCE!” Studio @ WPAA

Mondays – 4:30-6pm

August 24th – November 16th

8th grade through 12th grade

Instructor – Elijah Golden

$10 per class – $120 for full semester

A weekly acting studio class for 8th-12th grade students with a focus on: acting skills, improv techniques, monologues & scene work (from all genres of theatre), audition prep, and more. If you’re looking to strengthen your acting prowess, this is the class for you! Whether you’re interested in community theatre, regional / professional theatre, performing arts colleges, pursuing acting as a career, or haven’t graced a stage a day in your life, this class will expand your skillset and prepare you for your future endeavors. Build confidence in your performance, strengthen bonds and friendships with fellow teen actors, and advance your skills by joining the “Actors, Advance! Studio” @ WPAA.


“SONGS & SCENES”

Wednesdays – 4:30-6pm

August 26th – November 18th

5th grade through 8th grade

Instructor – Charlie Kluttz

$15 per class – $180 for full semester

A weekly vocal performance and acting class for 5th through 8th grade students with a focus on: strengthening vocal technique, acting through song, group songs & scene work, audition prep, and music theory / musical literacy (aka sight-reading). This class explores dynamic group songs (and the scenes that surround them) from the American musical theatre repertoire. The semester will culminate with a showcase of all songs and scenes students have learned. Additional semester projects include: duet and solo songs & scenes, weekly instructional warm-ups that focus on technique, and improvisational exercises.


“SHAKE IT UP!” with Mackenzie

Thursdays – 4:45-5:45pm

August 27th – November 19th

Kindergarten through 5th grade

Instructor – Mackenzie Houston

$10 per class – $120 for full semester

A weekly music theatre dance class for Kindergarten through 5th grade students with a focus on: strengthening dance fundamentals, “across the floor” movement, combinations, and dance routines. Students will “shake it up” each week while exploring different dance combos set to a wide variety of beloved musical theatre songs. This class focuses on re-enforcing important basic dance & movement fundamentals and techniques. The semester will culminate in a class showcase to demonstrate what students have been working on. Putting the “fun” in fundamentals is exactly what this class is about!


“ADULT ACTING EXPLORATION”

Thursdays – 7-8pm (first 3 Thursdays of each month)

August 27th – November 19th

Adults (18+)

Instructor – Elijah Golden

$10 per class – $120 for full semester

A weekly adult acting class focusing on acting fundamentals and skill-building. Whether you’ve never even considered stepping onto a stage, or you’ve been acting for decades, this is the class for you! This low-stakes, low-pressure class will be shaped around what you want to get out of it. Whether it’s learning a monologue or two for your repertoire, building confidence in your scenework, delving into various acting techniques, or, even just shaking off the nerves of performing in front of others, this class is all about giving adults the space to dip their toes into the world of performance, and explore the many aspects of acting in a stress free, supportive environment.


“IMPROV NIGHT(s) @ WPAA”

Thursday – 7-9pm (last Thursday each month: 7/30, 8/27, 9/24, 10/29)

Adults (18+)

Instructor – Elijah Golden

$10 per session (or free for those enrolled in “Adult Acting Exploration”)

A once-a-month acting improv night for adults at WPAA! This low-pressure monthly workshop will explore: basic improv techniques, improv games, improvising scenes, and more. This low-stakes, low-pressure monthly workshop is all about cutting loose, breaking free, and having fun! Bring your friends and your creativity and see what unfolds on the stage. Perfect for a date night or celebratory occasion with friends!

*** You do not need to be enrolled in “Adult Acting Exploration” to attend “Improv Night” ***


“A BROADWAY BUFFET” CABARET

PERFORMANCE DATES TBD (mid-November)

(One interest meeting in October, then 2 rehearsals before performance in mid-November)

Ages 16+

A one-night-only musical theatre cabaret for ages 16+. Similar to a “miscast” or “broadway backwards” style cabaret, participants will select and prepare their own musical theatre selections to perform solo, or in small groups, in a one night cabaret in November @ WPAA (or on the Willingham Theater Stage). Piano accompaniment or karaoke backing tracks will be provided. Participants will register in the early fall, have one “interest meeting” in October, then 2 rehearsals before the performance in mid-November. Small-group numbers are encouraged. The full cast will learn one combined full-ensemble song to perform at the end of the cabaret. Register via our google form to reserve your spot / show your interest, then stay tuned for more info!
