Singing music at first sight, without any preparation, is an invaluable skill that all performing artists should have. Ear training (aural skills) goes hand-in-hand with sight singing and my week-long virtual workshop is aimed at improving both skill sets for each student involved.
I will use two online PDF books (“Rhythmic Training” by Robert Starer and “Sight-Singing” by Mike Campbell) to lead the class through a variety of rhythmic and melodic exercises. Students will be challenged to perform some exercises on their own in front of the class throughout the week. These exercises focus on rhythmic and melodic recitations. They strengthen the ear’s ability to hear musical patterns and the eyes ability to see them on the page. You’ll be thankful you spent a week with me when you start acing your sight-singing auditions at schools and choral festivals, and you’ll be amazed by how much quicker you are able to learn and perform the songs you are to learn and perform the songs you are passionate about.
