Overview
The Yadkinville Public Art Committee in partnership with the Yadkin Arts Council are seeking artists and artist teams to submit proposals for the installation of a permanent outdoor mural in downtown Yadkinville. Funding for this mural is being provided through a grant from the Town of Yadkinville and the Yadkinville Tourism Development Authority. This will be the first mural of an ongoing downtown mural project – the deadline outlined above is for the first selected mural but the possibility of additional murals being selected will be considered as more funding is obtained.
About the Location
The mural will be located at the corner of Elm St. and Jackson St. in downtown Yadkinville. The wall that will be used is on the side of the building that belongs to the Margaret Caudle Income Tax Services located at 119 South Jackson Street, Yadkinville, NC 27055 . The available surface area consists of painted brick and the proposed murals can be up to 12’ high by 30’ long.
Themes
Public Art themes suggested by the Yadkinville Public Art Committee include, but are not limited to: nature (plants, flowers, animals, etc.), music, and family. Artists submitting proposals may find it helpful to do research on Yadkin County to discover subject matter that may be of interest to our community including the cultural or historical significance of our area (agriculture, industrial, landscape).
Project Budget
The total amount to be paid to the artist will be in the range of $7,500-$10,000 and should be inclusive of all project costs. (Examples of expenses can include but are not limited to: research, visual mockups, fabrication, materials, travel, and any other costs incurred by the artist).
Artist Eligibility
Artist/Artist team MUST be 18 years of age and older, and a resident of North Carolina. Artists Submit a detailed design proposal as well as a portfolio with examples of past work.
Special Notes
The mural must have a long lifespan without needed maintenance – Art must be durable and must be able to endure the elements (wind, rain, snow, etc). If you are able, we encourage artists to visit the location of the wall in person prior to submitting their proposals to assess the area and any obstacles or challenges they may encounter.
Artist and Selection Process
The Yadkinville Public Art Advisory Committee will evaluate all proposals on artistic merit and viability. The chosen artist or artist team will be asked to enter into a contract with the Town of Yadkinville. The contract will outline project milestones and a payment schedule.
How to Apply and What to Submit

- Name, Mailing Address, Email Address, and Phone Number
- Proposed Artwork: Include a conceptual project proposal that communicates how your proposed artwork would look upon completion. Artists should convey their ideas in a way that allows the committee to fully picture their concept, be it through their verbal description, or visual mockups and sketches. Please be as detailed as possible (colors, media/materials used, etc).
- Proposed Budget for project: provide an estimate of costs for your proposal
- Past Work Samples: Submit 3-5 images with descriptions of relevant past artwork including year created, materials, and location (if applicable).
- Artist Biography: Submit an artist biography or resume including background information such as education, artistic interest, professional experience, and/or past commissions.
Proposed Timeline
- Deadline for proposals: April 30, 2025 by midnight
- Artist(s) will be chosen and selection will be announced by : May 30, 2025
- Mural completion deadline: September 15, 2025
- Check-in timeline to be addressed in artist contract
