Between intentional manipulation of the fragile emulsion and the inevitable “happy accidents” you can produce interesting or surreal images. All you need is a photo on your smartphone, everything else is provided. Working with collage (sticking pieces of paper onto a backing) can help you understand how to edit and arrange shapes into more interesting images. You will have two projects.
–In Project One, we will use white shapes on a black background to play with pre-cut cut papers and a glue stick, putting shapes together to create an abstract design in black and white. –In Project Two, we will work in color. We will begin selecting a design format for the underlying structure. This will be created with collaged papers, with the first layers being abstract, then overlaid with realistic elements to make a finished piece.
